During his photographic career, he covered the 1960 Presidential campaigns of Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy; photographed Fidel Castro, Teddy and Bobby Kennedy, President Lyndon Johnson, Indira Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and John-John Kennedy with Caroline Jacqueline Kennedy. His career in media, transformed from photography into the realm of cable television via Landmark Communications and TeleCable Corporation. During his career, he helped to build cable systems in Decatur, Alabama, Columbus, Georgia, and finally in Lexington, Kentucky, where he served as Vice President and General Manager-Lexington until the company was sold in 1995 when he retired with his wife to Florida to play his favorite game, golf. His parents, G.P. and Gladys Chowning Hertweck; and a granddaughter, Mackenzie B. Hertweck, preceded Max in death. Max leaves behind his wife of 58 years, LaQuita “Queet” Pridgen Hertweck; a daughter, Paige (Jonathan) Reinstine of Louisville, Kentucky; a son, William (Jennifer) Hertweck of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Will and Molly Reinstine, Caleb Hertweck, and Ryan and Justin Wilhoit; and two brothers, Romayne (Alma) Hertweck of Oceanside, California, and Dale (Elene) Hertweck of Rutherfordton, North Carolina.
