Maxine Evers

Maxine Evers, 85, of Ward Basin, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 22, 2017. She was a native and lifelong resident of Milton. She was one of nine siblings born to the late Jack and Elon (Morrell) Smith. She loved Gospel and Country music. She loved to fish and loved to shop at Fred’s and Kmart. Her favorite restaurants were Tastee Freeze and KFC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Larce Evers; daughter, Syble Evers; and her siblings, infant twins, Leona Smith, Eugene Smith, Shirley Gray, Frankie Smith, and Josephine Lane. Mrs. Evers is survived by one son, Lamar (Wanda)Evers of Milton; one daughter, Arlene (Lee) Johnson of Milton; four grandchildren, Gray Weaver, Ken Johnson, Amanda Johnson, and Ashley Evers; seven great-grandchildren, Gabby Flores, Abigaille Flores, Aiyana Johnson, Taylor Ellis, Savannah Johnson, Tailer Preston and Bryce Preston; one sister, Ellen Holster of Milton; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Rev. Donald Leavins officiating. Burial will follow services in Hickory Hammock Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton. Pallbearers will be Garson Cooley, Tommy Pugh, Billy Grimes, Alex Pollock, Buddy Morrell and Tommy Weekley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Howell, Ron Quinn and Brian McLaughlin.
