Melba Myers Obituary

Melba Jean Myers of Pace, FL passed unexpectedly at her home July 27, 2013. Jean will always be remembered as a dedicated wife and mother who gave of herself generously to all in need. Having been raised in rural Mississippi in the WWII era, she was no stranger to difficulty. After graduating high school she attended secretarial business school in Memphis. In 1951, she married Freddy Jerome Myers. They have two children, Freddy Jerome Myers (daughter, Chyna) and Sharon Kay Myers-Mongue (husband, Michael). During her 25 years of being a "navy wife", her favorite Navy duty station was Iceland. Jerry, Jean and her family settled in Pensacola in 1970. Jean made a home for her family and a career for herself at Auto Owners Insurance Co. She appreciated the value of living within her means and took pride in managing the 'check book'. Jean and her family greatly enjoyed gardening, and keeping up their small farm in Pace. She took great pride in her cooking and showed her love by cooking for family and friends. The family wishes to thank all everyone whom have been so kind and gracious during this difficult time. Special thanks to Dan and Gail Jones, Tammy and Dick Gross and Ms.Pat Jiles for always being there for our mother and loving her always. In lieu of flowers the family asks any donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Services will be at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel on Wednesday, July 31st. 10:00 -11:00 visitation with service at 11:00. Jean will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:15.
