Michael Phillipi

Michael A. Phillipi, 76, of Milton, Florida, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, after a brief illness. Mike was born in Alliance, Ohio, and was one of two sons born to the late Abram and Lucille Phillippi. He was a graduate of Alliance High School (1958) and retired from American Steel Foundries in 1995 after 34 years of service. Prior to moving to Florida in 2008, Mike was a member of Damascus Friends Church. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Phillipi, and brother, Robert Phillippi. Survivors include his fiancé, Lena Langham of Milton, Florida; a son, Christopher (Christine) Phillipi of Pensacola, Florida; and daughters, Lisa Phillipi of Rootstown, Ohio, and Denise (Joseph) McKinley of Alliance, Ohio; grandchildren, Daniel Phillipi of Canton, Ohio, Amber Rogers, Lindsay Rogers, and Jessica Rogers of Poland, Ohio, Leah Iannini of Stow, Ohio, and Laura Iannini of Rootstown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Mike was a beloved father and grandfather, and a generous and steadfast friend to many. Mike was always there to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to his family and friends. He loved to fish and enjoyed many fishing expeditions to Canada and Florida. Mike was an avid sports fan and even after moving south continued to route for the Cleveland and Ohio State teams. Like many others from northeast Ohio his heart was broken multiple times by Cleveland teams that failed to meet expectations; however, he was very pleased to see the Cavaliers win a championship in 2016. In his later years, Mike developed many friendships through his regular postings to Facebook, particularly to the Alliance, Ohio, Memories site. A graveside service will be held in the Alliance City Cemetery, Alliance, Ohio, in late May. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with local arrangements. The family wishes to thank the staff of Santa Rosa Hospital, Pruitt Health, and Covenant Care for the care and kindness provided to Mike during his time of illness.
