Newton Manning

Newton Dozier Manning, 87, of Milton, Florida, went to meet our Lord and Savior on Monday, February 8, 2016. He was greeted by his parents, Lewis and Ethel Manning; his son, Larry Gene Manning; his brother, Thames Manning; his sister in-law, Shirley Manning; his great niece, Jordan Peterson; and his in-laws, Clarence and Mittie Snowden. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Peggy Joyce Manning; his daughter, Cyndi Manning Griffin; his sons, Joel Craig Manning and Larry Jerome Manning; his brother, Hurley Nall Manning; his sister in-law, Mae Manning; his grandchildren, Erin Colleen Griffin and John Terence “Terry” Griffin; Terry’s fiancé, Amanda Johnson of Clayton, North Carolina; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Newton was raised in the small community of Allentown, Florida. He graduated Valedictorian of Allentown High School in 1946. He met the love of his life Peggy Snowden, of Andalusia, Alabama, while working for John Mann’s Laundry. Newton Manning joined the U S Navy in 1948 as a radar man on the U.S.S. Corry. He served for four years and was honorably discharged. After his military service, he worked for NARF until he retired at age 55. Newton enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, bird watching and working with his hands. He lived a full life of enjoyment and spending time with his family and friends. Anyone who met Newton knew he loved to tell stories and jokes and he never met a stranger. He is known for giving great advice for most situations and always gave it openly and with love. He will be dearly missed by his family, church family and friends. The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Dennis Mayeaux, Peoples Home Health, Select Specialty Hospital and Santa Rosa Health and Rehab. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2016, at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. prior to the services.
