Opal Mortman Obituary

Opal Jernigan Mortman, 90, formerly of Pensacola, Florida, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017. Opal was the eldest of ten children born to Joe and Maude Jernigan, and grew up in the community of Chumuckla. Opal worked as a secretary for Exxon Mobil in Houston, Texas, until her retirement. She moved back to the Pensacola area after her retirement and attended Hillcrest Baptist Church. Opal is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Maude Jernigan; two brothers, Frank Jernigan and Gene Jernigan; two sisters, Jo Fletcher and Mattie Lou Lee; two grandchildren, Jennifer Pecoraro and Mitchell Good; and her great-grandson, Ben Roberts. Opal is survived by her children, Ann Good of Safety Harbor, Florida, Helen Pecoraro of Naples, Florida, Thomas Payne Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida and Rebecca Lofton of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Good, Tyrone Pecoraro, Bradley Pecoraro, Guy Payne, Amy Payne Roberts, Julie Hudson and Stan Raley; and great grandchildren, Austin Good, Ashley Pecoraro, Amy Pecoraro, Travis Pecoraro, Skylar Pecoraro, Brady Roberts, Parker Roberts, Justin Payne and Shelby Hudson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel (4777 West Spencerfield Road, Pace, Florida 32571), with Pat Mobley from Hillcrest Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery, Chumuckla. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Rose of Texas Hospice and Compassionate Care Assisted Living in Conroe, Texas, for the love and care given to “Miss Opal” as she was affectionately known.
