Pat Walters Milton, Florida Obituary

Pat Walters

Ms. Mattie Patricia “Pat” Walters was born in Prattville, Alabama, on February 7, 1945. She was the youngest daughter of Robert Benjamin Majors and Mattie Virginia Majors. She was the youngest of four siblings, Virginia (Jake) Hendrix, Juanita (Silas) Tucker, and Robert Majors Jr. (deceased). She was a devoted daughter and sister, and over the last years of her life took great joy in visiting with her older sisters, both of whom have provided great comfort and support to her and her family in the last few difficult weeks. Pat was a faithful wife, and is preceded in death by three husbands: Cecil Howard Bone, father of Pat’s two sons; Wayne Walters, father of Pat’s daughter; and Frank O. Gunter. Pat was a devoted, and doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the mother of Howard D. (Paula) Walters, of Ashland, Ohio; David A. (Carolyn) Walters, of Pompano Beach, Florida; and Sharon D. (Lee) MacArthur, of Boynton Beach, Florida. Her grandchildren are Emily (Kurt) Walters Harstine, Rose (Kevin) Walters Yeo, Benjamin Tanner MacArthur, Mollie Walters, Rylee Ann MacArthur, Macey Claire MacArthur, Cooper Silas MacArthur. Her great-grandchildren are Penelope Harstine and Milo Harstine. Pat was, more than any other life role or commitment, a faithful follower of Jesus. She sought a relationship with Him at an early age, and was a dedicated servant. One of the last things that came out of Pat’s mouth were the exclamation, “Jesus, I am on the road!” followed by a time of quietly singing the hymn My Jesus I Love Thee. After a few hours of quiet sleep, she went to be with her Jesus and her mother and father. Pat treasured her church family. She was incredibly active at First Baptist Church, Milton, Florida, serving in many ministry efforts, but particularly the food pantry and the Family Promise ministry to the homeless. During particularly difficult times in her life, she had relied on the grace and kindness of her church community to feed and house her young family, and she never forgot God’s grace and the love of Christ offered through her church. The family would particularly like to thank the doctors, nurses, custodians and every other role unnamed of the CCU at West Florida Hospital, too many to name, who cared for mother for 18 days and nights. They would also like to thank the loving staff and nurses and nurse assistants of Covenant Hospice on the 3rd floor of West Florida Hospital. The compassionate care that was shown to Pat following her sudden illness, and then later as she moved to Covenant Hospice, will always be a treasured memory. The peace and quiet and beauty of the hospice allowed us all to enjoy our time with Pat for those last days. We do not grieve as those who have no hope. Momma taught us all about Jesus, and we will see Him, and her, again.
