Rhonda Lyn Hodges – Moody was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on April 2, 1962, and made her final deployment at 17:32 hours on April 23, 2015 – 53 years, 21 days of precious life. She is preceded in death by her Dad, Richard C. Hodges. She is survived by her loving and dedicated Husband, Barry; her Step-Son, Tracy Moody; our two Children – Preston Eugene and Penny Elizabeth and the first Grand-Child, Jason; her Mother, Elsie (Todoroff) Hodges; Brother and Sister-in-Law, D. Richard and Betty L. (Phillips) Hodges; Sisters: Tamy M. (Hodges)Taylor, Tracy M. (Hodges) Poston and Julie A. (Hodges) Dyson and her Husband, Ricky Dyson; Nieces & Nephews: Korey and Sarah (Appleby) Hodges, Casey (Hodges) Brewington and David Brewington, Nicole and Joshua Taylor, Allyssa and Caleb Poston, Miranda Heater and Alexis Dyson. Looking around I see friends and family – new and old – and our Family would like to graciously thank each of you for helping to celebrate Rhonda’s life. You are very special in our lives and we love you all. Rhonda graduated from Bridgeport High School and joined the service straight away as she had enlisted in the USAF delayed enlistment program. SMSgt Moody served 12 years active duty and 247 months in the USAFR at Duke Field for a total of over 32 years military service. She earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal for participating in 32 world-wide deployments and supporting 11 different conflicts including the invasion of Panama, Operation Just Cause; the Gulf War (3 trips) Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Desert Sabre and Drug Interdiction in the Bahamas. Her other numerous awards include: Meritorious Service Medal Air Force Commendation Medal Air Force Achievement Medal Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, with Valor Joint Meritorious Unit Citation with Valor Air Force Gallant Unit Award Air Force Good Conduct Medal National Defense Service Medal Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Southwest Asia Service Medal Air Force Overseas Ribbon (short) Air Force Overseas Ribbon (long) Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon AF Professional Military Ed. Graduate Ribbon Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Expert in 3 different weapons) Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) While continuing to serve her Country, Rhonda was employed by the USPS, primarily in the Mary Esther Post Office, for over 25 years, as the smiling face you saw when you visited the Post Office Window. She was forced to medically retire two years ago. Rhonda was an active, Life- Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4407 and the Air Commando Association. Most recently she brought her light to the Fort Walton Beach Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served with love and distinction with her many Sisters and their Husbands. She was a kindred spirit to everyone she met. It’s safe to say that we will all miss her in our own special way, none more than I. Rest in Peace my darling, my love and my Wife. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Barrancas National Cemetery, onboard Pensacola Naval Air Station. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., prior to the service.
