Richard Weekley Milton, Florida Obituary

Richard Weekley

Richard Wayne Weekley, 69 years old, passed away on Wednesday night, August 17 after a 6-years battle with cancer. As in everything he was committed to in his life, Richard was unwavering in his love for his family. He was a Christian and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Milton and served there for as long as his health allowed him to. Richard began his working career at Air Products and Chemicals (then known as Escambia Bay Chemical) in 1963, then went to work for Exxon and retired from the St. Regis facility in Jay in 1999. Richard is survived by a family who loved him dearly and respected him for the fine man he was. His wife of over 50 years, Glenda Shelby Weekley, survives him, as do his wonderful and devoted children: Cynthia Kiker, Michael Weekley (wife Teri) , and Pamela Ardoin (husband Doug). He is also survived by grandchildren who were an important part of his life: Wil Brooks (wife Hilary) and Richard Brooks; Justin (wife Andrea), Jeremy, and Jacob Weekley; Alexandra, Connor, and Luke Ardoin. He also had 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Riley Brooks. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Bob Wilburn Weekley and Doris Grimes Weekley. Other survivors are his brothers-in -law and their wives, who loved him as one of their own, and by an aunt, Ernestine Williams, who was devoted to him and was one of his biggest encouragers. He also left behind several cousins who continued to be a part of his life to the end of his days. Services for Richard will be held at First Baptist Church of Milton on Saturday, August 20. Visitation for friends will begin at 2:00 with services following at 4:00. Burial will follow at Hickory Hammock Community Cemetery on Hickory Hammock Road. The service will be conducted by Dr. David Spencer, pastor of First Baptist Church, with Lewis Funeral Home directing. Active pallbearers will be Gene Clark, Ray Callaway, Clayton Tolbert, Bill Timlin, Gene Dees, Jonathan Wingate, and Richard Ardoin. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Fisher-Brown Sunday School class, of which he and Glenda were long-time members. Contributions in Richard's name may be given to special funds at First Baptist Church that have been dear to Richard's heart: To the Men's Ministry; to the Kitchen Renovation fund; or to a Digital Sign fund. Memorials may also be made to Covenant Hospice. Friends may send condolences and share fond memories with the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.net.
