Salley and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I was an instructor with Sammy in Corpus Christi, he was a great guy. He taught me to enjoy Jerry Jeff Walker, to learn the words to "London Homesick Blues," and made me buy his album. I was sharing that song with my wife and told her how I remembered Sammy playing the air guitar and the 2 of us howling away. Wonderful memories.
I asked a friend who was with us at VT-31 if he has been in touch with Sam and I was sadly directed here.
The world is a better place because of him.

I met Commander thru my son Matt Jr during his NJROTC years at Pace High School. Matt loved Commander and was always eager to share about his time and experiences together.
Commander was more than a teacher/instructor. He was a soft spoken leader and mentor to many young men and women at Pace High School. Please accept our warmest condolences and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sally, so sorry to hear of the passing of Sam. He was such a great guy, a professional Naval Officer and certainly a total outstanding asset to VP-6. I was shocked when I received the e-mail from Linda. However, I will always remember how you and Linda were a major supporting factor in helping Geneil with the wives of VP-6 during our deployments. I thank you both for that support and I now express my deepest sympathy for you and Jessica and her family and know that God will support and comfort you in the days to come.
