Samuel Douglas Carmichael, 67, of Milton, Florida went to be with the Lord on January 2, 2014. He was born in Virgilina, Virginia on August 31, 1946 to Samuel Thomas Carmichael and Clara Lee Gravitt. Doug was loved and reared by his step-father John Raymond Williamson whom he loved and respected. He married Sharon Dianne Waters on January 18, 1969 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and they retired to Milton, Florida in 1984. Doug was a twenty year veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a Chief Petty Officer. During the Viet Nam war he served aboard the USS America with VF 102 out of Oceana, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his son Bryan Douglas Carmichael, his parents Samuel and Clara, his step-father, John, his step-mother, Shirley and his brother Tommy. Doug is survived by his wife of 45 years, his daughters Karri (Jarrod) Jack, Kristi (Ben) Walls both of North Carolina, Kelli (Michael) Lajoie of New York, Mikayla and Makenna Carmichael, Milton, Florida, his sons John (Grace) Carmichael of Okinawa, Japan and Seth Carmichael of Milton, Florida. Doug is also survived by his sisters, Susan (Michael) Horton of North Carolina, Barbara (Louis) Biro of Virginia and his brother John Williamson of Virginia. He is survived by the joys of his heart, his grandchildren Austin Walker, Taylor (Jesse) Marino, Tristan Evans, Dawson Lajoie, Alexandra Walls, Brianna Carmichael, Luke Carmichael and soon to be great-granddaughter Avery Sophia Marino. He also leaves a very special friend who has been his very best buddy for over 50 years, Dennis Harnish. Visitation will be Thursday, January 9th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton. Funeral Services will be at Lewis Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on January 10th with internment at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Children Without a Voice USA, PO Box 4351, Alpharetta, GA 30023. Doug will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
