Sara Going Simpson

Sara Going Simpson, 81, of Navarre, Florida, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 10, 2020. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Sara lived a life exemplifying Christian kindness and generosity of heart. Beginning her life in North Carolina, then Greenville, South Carolina, Sara moved with her family to Tampa, Florida, in 1950, where she graduated from H.B. Plant High School. Sara earned an Associate’s degree in Secretarial Science from the University of Tampa, where she was also a member of the Delta Gamma social sorority. After working in insurance in Tampa, she then married Robert Simpson in July 1972. In their life together, Bob and Sara lived in many places around the country in support of Bob’s career with Electronic Data Systems, including Richardson, Texas, Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and Plano, Texas. In each location, Sara quickly became an essential member of her community, and particularly her church. While not having children of her own, Sara worked selflessly in the church’s nursery weekly, volunteered regularly in the church administrative office, and worked tirelessly to help maintain the church gardens. Also, during their married life, Sara worked as an executive secretary for various companies where they resided, including Texas Instruments. In 2003, Bob and Sara retired to Navarre, Florida, to be closer to family, allowing her to spend time again with her dear sister, Barbara. Sara’s passions in life were her family and friends, her church, and her pets. She and Bob had many dogs over the years, and bred their prize-winning Doberman, Magic, raising a litter of ten puppies. Sara loved to garden and was gifted with a special ability to create beauty in any landscape where others would struggle. Sara was also a gifted seamstress, and a lover of many crafts. Even though Bob’s work took their lives together to many locations, Sara always remained an integral part of both her and Bob’s families. Throughout their childhood and beyond, Sara was like a mother to her nephew, Bill, and niece, Beth. Sara is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Simpson; her sister, Barbara Going Stoll; her nephew and niece, Bill Stoll (Paula) and Beth Stoll Kizer (Jim), and her great-nephews, Will Stoll (Brittani), Garrett Kizer, and Davis Stoll. She was preceded by her parents, Robert and Lenora Going. A private Graveside Service will be held Friday, May 15, 2020. Lewis Funeral Home of Navarre has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation (Parkinson’s Disease) or the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
