Shelton Cook Obituary

Shelton Lee Cook, 70, of Pace, was called home to be with Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2016. After Shelton retired from Boss Glove Factory in Greenville, Alabama and the International Paper Lumber Mill in Georgiana, Alabama, he settled in at Pace Christian Academy, where he found great joy through the happiness of the children who “helped him to remain feeling young.” Shelton loved riding his scooter through his neighborhood and eating out. His favorites were seafood and Friday’s specialty, meatloaf at Doris’ Heart and Soul. Shelton had a deep love for God, family, and Alabama football. When he was not able to attend church services, he watched Pastor Joey Rogers, live-streamed, on Sunday mornings. Shelton loved to travel, and just this year he visited the Great Smoky Mountains, his favorite destination, as well as Orlando, Houston, and Branson for some new adventures. He peacefully made his greatest and final journey in the early hours on December eighth, surrounded, as always, by love and family. Shelton will be taking his place in Heaven with his parents, William and Avinell Cook, and his three brothers, Johnny, Willie, and William. Shelton’s light touched so many lives, and he leaves the gift of many loving and happy memories with his wife, Brandie Renfroe Cook; son, Michael (Renee) Cook; daughter, Sherry Leann (Keith) McNaughton; brother, Cecil (Carolyn) Cook; three grandsons, Ryan, Tanner, and Trent; two granddaughters, Megan and Jenna; sisters-in-law, Brittany (Stephen) Smith and Alana (Wayne) Anderson; father- and mother-in-law, Ricky & Jerilynn Renfroe; special nieces and nephew, Annabelle & Gabriella Nelson, Tammy Cook, and Chris Hart; of course, his most dedicated sidekick, Prissy “Pookie”; and many dear extended nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, 11 December 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel, with Pastor Steve Zepp officiating. Burial will follow, at Cora Cemetery in Jay, with Lewis Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, prior to the services. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lianna, Jamie, and Mark, who loved and cared for Shelton like family; Covenant Care and Staff; Dr. Thomas Sunnenburg and staff; Ann Erikson; and the extended family and staff at Sacred Heart Hospital. Shelton was a very special man who will be missed greatly by his family and many friends.
