Susan Shawn Wood, age 60 of Navarre, passed away on January 13th, 2020 after a battle with lung cancer. Sue, as she was affectionately known by her close friends and family, was born on November 9th 1959 in Great Falls, Montana and raised in Central Illinois. She received her GED and went on to work several jobs before settling down as a bartender for the local VFW in her final years. Mom was a quiet person, but when it came to her family, she was overly outspoken. She spent the majority of her life as a wonderful mother to her two sons, John and Kyle, and to her loving daughter Angela. Sue would not want us to mourn her death, but to celebrate her life, as she wished. Sue is survived by her two adult sons, John Miles and Kyle Wood of Navarre, her daughter Angela Crawford of Ste Genevieve, Missouri, two brothers William and his wife Rita of St. Louis, Missouri; Randy Kerg of Channahon, Illinois, sisters Tomi Roth-Spencer of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Rachel Bremer of Chillicothe, Illinois. A chili cook-off benefit in Sue's memory will take place on Sunday January 19th at VFW Post 11367 in Navarre. A Celebration of Sue's life will take place on Saturday January 26th from 3-6pm at VFW Post 11367 in Navarre. Per her wishes, a public funeral will not be held, and her ashes will be scattered amongst one of her favorite places, Crab Island. Mom, we love you so much, we will miss you terribly, your love will forever be felt in the hearts and lives of those who you touched so much. The family of Sue would like to thank her loving sisters Tomi and Rachel for being able to care for her in the final months and days of her life. You will never know the impact you had on her life even in her final moments. The family would also like to thank the staff of Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital and Covenant Hospice of Pensacola for their care for Mom in the final days of her life.
