William Glover

William Edward Glover William (Bill) Edward Glover, went to be with the lord on Saturday, August 20,2011. He had been in the hospital after an extended illness. He was 73 at the time of his passing. He was born on November 29, 1937 in Illinois to Ralph Lester and Beulah Glover Dobkins; he was the baby boy of twelve children. He graduated in 1955 from John Greer High School in Hoopeston, Ill and enlisted in the US Navy at age 17 where he served as a Machinery Repairman (MR). He finished his career in the Navy as a Second Class Petty Officer. During his time in the Navy he served aboard the USS Cambria and the maiden voyage of the USS Ranger, CVA61. He was stationed in Norfolk VA and visited such ports as San Diego, Naples, Cuba, Puerto Rico, St. Raphael, and Crete also visiting points in Portugal and Turkey. His ship is also credited with making the trip around the Horn of Africa. Bill married the love of his life, Barbara Irene Miller on September 1, 1971, a marriage of nearly 40 years. He was the greatest Husband and father anyone could ever ask for. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Richard, Chuck, John and his sisters, Isabelle, Ruth and Jean and his step son, Steve. He was survived by his wife and two children, Chuck Glover of Shelbyville, TN and Daughter, Julie Roberts of Fort Walton Beach, FL, as well as four step children, Eddie and Ken Salter both of Alabama, David Salter of Pace, FL and Teri Salter of Alabama. He is also survived by three sisters, Joan Binkley of Rantoul, IL, Gwen Brown and Marcia Smith both of Hoopeston, IL, and two brothers, Ralph Glover of Mtn. Grove, MO and Jim Glover of Hoopeston, IL. He also leaves behind three grandsons, Danny Randolph of Navarre, FL, Josh Glover of Gallatin, TN and Ryan Conner, of Jacksonville, FL. Ryan is currently serving in the US Navy, following in his grandpa’s footsteps. Bill also brags of 10 great grand children; and numerous nieces and nephews. There were no graveside services, but a celebration of life at his home. The arrangements were in the care of Lewis Funeral Home, Pace FL.
