William Hatcher Obituary

William D. ("Dewey") Hatcher Dewey peacefully left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on May 16, 2013. A life-long resident of Santa Rosa County, Dewey lived in Harold and Bagdad. Dewey joined the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Army, he became a civil service employee at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL. Beginning in 1957, he was an active member of the Bagdad Assembly of God Church. He was elected to the Board of Directors and served as deacon and trustee. At times, Dewey would fill the pulpit to minister to the congregation. In 1958, he organized the first Royal Ranger Outpost at Bagdad Assembly. He also served as usher, leader of the Christ Ambassadors Youth Ministry, Sunday School Superintendent, and Adult Sunday School teacher. In virtually any capacity, Dewey exhibited a willing heart for service. In 1973, Dewey was asked to be interim pastor of the Harold Assembly of God Church. He filled that position for two years before he was asked to assist Dr. Charles Raley at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. When he felt his mission completed at Glad Tidings, he returned to Bagdad Assembly once again to fill much-needed positions of ministry. In 1982, Dewey and his family joined the Pace Assembly of God Church where he served as usher and in the men's ministries. In addition to his service, Dewey was known for his love of the outdoors as well as for his dignity and fortitude. Throughout his life, and especially in his later years, Dewey battled physical infirmity bravely, and we that remain are comforted that the fight of his life is now over. He is survived by his beloved wife, "Millie" Hatcher; his daughter, Andrea C. Hatcher; his brothers, Cecil (Brenda) and Dennis (Sue) Hatcher; his sisters, Barbara Barnes, Linda (Ken) Cunningham, Ellen (Don) Belisle, and Beverly (Dallas) Holland); and a special brother-in-law, Bob Edge. Dewey now rejoices with those who have gone before. He is preceded in death by his mother, Leoma Hatcher; his father, Oscar Hatcher; his brother, Joseph "Jake" Hatcher; his sister, Betty Jean Richardson; and a special brother-in-law, Lance Edge. A celebration of Dewey's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Rev. Jeff McKee will conduct and Andrea will offer a special tribute to her father. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. prior to services. Lewis Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements. Pallbearers will be: Steve Barnes, Jason Barnes, Dean Powell, Stanley Richardson, Terry Richardson, and Jimmy Hatcher.
