Woodfin Cox

Woodfin Deroy Cox 1935-2012 Woodfin (Woody) Deroy Cox, age 76, was the only child of Frank Woodfin and Ruby Lee Wells Cox. He was born on September 16, 1935 in Jackson County, Fl and died surrounded by loved ones on August 20, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, James W. and Viola Bowen Wells. Woodfin was a devoted husband of 51 years to Hilda Settle Cox and a doting father to two daughters and their husbands: Sheri Lyn Cox and John Bowling and Karen Leigh Cox and Bryan Mackey. He delighted in two granddaughters; Kalyn (Kevin) Montminy and Ryan Mackey. He loved and was loved by surviving in-laws; Mickey and Robin Settle, Nelda and Mitch Mishoe. He is survived by three cousins; Joseph P. Cox, Robert Wells and Jean Wells Snipes. Woodfin graduated from Graceville High School in 1953 and then entered the USAF for four years. He graduated from Chipola Jr. College before receiving a bachelor’s degree from Troy State College in 1961. He served as a teacher for 26 years, primarily in driver education. After retiring, Woodfin volunteered as a member of the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary for 25 years achieving the rank of captain. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Milton where he served on the Tuesday Morning Volunteers and sang in the choir until his health declined. He was known for his mechanical knowledge and ingenuity along with a keen sense of humor. A Celebration of his life will occur on Thursday, August 23rd, at First United Methodist Church in Milton with the Rev. Kathryn Knight and the Rev. Gerald Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. followed by the service at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in Serenity Gardens. Active pallbearers will be The Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former members of the Tuesday Morning Volunteers. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the building fund for First United Methodist Church of Milton, 6819 Berryhill Street, Milton, Florida.
