Michael H. Covey Obituary

Michael Harold Covey passed from this life into the hands of our Lord on June 16, 2016, in the care of hospice at his home in Ormond Beach, FL. Mike was born August 3, 1942, in Dunkirk, NY, and grew up in Western Pennsylvania. He received his business degree from Penn State University while starting a family with his college sweetheart, Bonnie Peters. Mike was a Vietnam Veteran and achieved the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army before leaving military service. Upon returning home from Vietnam, Mike continued his education and earned a Master’s Degree in business at the University of Maryland. His career as a traffic manager with Air Products & Chemicals in PA spanned twenty-eight years, where he formed many lifelong friendships. As President-Emeritus and long-standing member of the transportation group known as RICA, he continued attending annual meetings to learn what was new in the industry and spend time with old friends. Mike was predeceased by Bonnie in 1996. Mike took an early retirement in the latter part of 1997. He and his current wife, Linda, began a new life in possibly his favorite place in the entire world, Ormond Beach, Florida. Mike enjoyed serving on the condominium Board of Directors and volunteering on various condo committees, relaxing on the balcony with a book or newspaper and rooting for the Pirates or Cubs. Mike also enjoyed walking the beach and in 2007 he decided a career at our local Publix Supermarket would be right up his alley. He loved his Publix family and after ten years of service he retired in March of 2016. In recent years Mike was bitten by the travel bug where he and Linda took a relaxing European Viking River Cruise. Mike also enjoyed solo adventures to Thailand & Cambodia, Australia & New Zealand, and most recently to Korea & Japan. Mike loved learning and exploring. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Harold J. and Alberta (Peterson) Covey. Mike is survived by his wife, Linda (Troxell), daughters Jill Kuhs (PA) and Carol Covey (VT), granddaughter Bonnie Rose Brand (NH), sister Linda Povich (PA), nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of dear friends far and wide--everyone loved Mike. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. by Fr. James Queen at St. Brendan Catholic Church. Burial services will be in Pennsylvania at the convenience of family. Donations may be made to St. Brendan Catholic Church, 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32176, or Vitas Hospice Care, 2381 Mason Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 3217, or your favorite charity. Rest in peace, Michael…you are loved.
