John Sproull

John Frank Sproull, III, 72, of Palatka, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka. John was an honor graduate of Palatka Senior High School in 1962 where he played football, basketball and baseball and was the recipient of the Hancock Trophy. He was an Eagle Scout who also earned his God and Country Award while in Boy Scout Troup 62 of Palatka. He received his degree from Florida State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and continued to Florida State School of Law. John served as a captain in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and 2 Bronze Star Medals (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster) for meritorious service. He also served as the head of the Defense Division for the Judge Advocate General at Ft. Carson. He later practiced law with his father-in-law, Angus Harriett. After the passing of Mr. Harriett in 1992, John continued the practice solely with the assistance of his secretary of 41 years, Vickie Moody. An active member of the community, John enjoyed coaching Little League sports and served as past President of the Rotary Club of Palatka. He was a member of St. James Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kaye Harriett Sproull, sons, John Angus Sproull (Traci) and Justin L. Sproull (Katie), grandchildren, Simone, Molly, Emory and Jeffrey, sister, Lucy Gardner, brother, Bill Sproull (Nancy), step-brother, Bill Walker (Robbi) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services were held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. James United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Hanna officiating.
