Mary Ruth Barnes, age 93, of Hastings and Matriarch of the Barnes family, passed from this life on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at St. Augustine Health and Rehab following an extended illness. Born in Clarkesville, TN, she was raised in Orange Mills and had resided in Hastings since 1938. Mary Ruth drove a school bus for the St. Johns County School System until she was 79 years old. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hastings and years ago, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Mary Ruth enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She was preceded in death by, her parents, Joseph Oscar Baggett and Laura Fambro Baggett, the father of her children, Clellan Barnes, 3 sons, Joseph Hardy Barnes, Marcus Hillman Barnes and David Rogervon Barnes, her siblings, John Baggett, James Baggett, Richard Baggett, Hazel Register and Pearl Hall and a great-great-grandchild, Marshall Dylan Picard. Mary Ruth is survived by a son, Johnny Barnes of St. Augustine, a daughter, Mary Lou McMullian (Jim) of Anchorage, AK, 2 sisters, Barbara Kramer (Carl ) of Satsuma and Patsy Norris (Carroll) of Fernandina Bch, 9 grandchildren, Billy Barnes (Bunny), Lisa Picard (Daniel), Ginger Mast (Mark), David Barnes (Kim), Mark Barnes (Selina), Debbie Barnes, Letti Bozard, James McMullian, III (Suzanne), Lori Dooley (Bryant), great-grandchildren, Chase Barnes, Cody Barnes, Chelsey Barnes, Cole Barnes, Clellan Barnes, Julia Hansford (Justin), J.D. Picard, Jarod Mast, Joshua Mast, Brent Barnes, Brad Barnes, Marcus Barnes, Traiy Barnes, Wesley Barnes, Justin Barnes, Jessica Barnes-Turner, Maili Talton, Grace Looney, Sarah Sousa, Madison Dooley, Savannah Dooley, Sophia McMullian, James McMullian, IV and Great-Great-Grandchildren, Ryleigh Hansford, Emma Hansford, Lona Pershall, Charlie Nooney and Levi Barnes. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 15, 2017 at Palatka Memorial Gardens with Rev. Michael Baggett officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
