William Audie “Bill” Motes, 65, of Salt Springs, passed from this life on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. Born in St. Augustine, he was raised in Palatka and had lived in the Lake Weir and Oklawaha areas of Marion County before living in the “scrub” for the past several years. Bill was a 1970 graduate of Palatka South High School. He retired from Duke Energy Company (formerly Florida Power Corporation) after 25 years of service as a lineman. He was Catholic and in his leisure time, he loved water sports, especially skiing and boating. Bill was a people-person and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Audie and Louise Motes. Bill is survived by his wife of 14 years, Luisa P. Motes of Salt Springs, 2 daughters, Tiffany Motes Harrison (C.J.) of Louisville, Co and Billie Motes Adams (Chris) of Seattle, WA, a brother, Tank Motes (Leslie) of Palatka, a sister, Chaaron Barnes of Dowell Town, TN, a grandson, Liam Motes Adams and expecting another grandchild soon. Bill is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other extended family. Visitation will be Monday, May 15, 2017 from 5-6 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. A continued celebration of Bill’s life at the home of Tank & Leslie Motes, 132 Lisa Lane, Palatka, immediately following. Please bring photos and stories to share.
