Desmond Chevannes Pembroke Pines, Florida Obituary

Desmond Chevannes

Desmond Paul Granville Chevannes was born on September 18, 1952, the eighth of ten children born to Granville and Alma Chevannes. He always said he was a birthday gift to his mother, as she was born September 16th, but being always late, he never made it on time. As the second boy in the group of ten, surrounded by all these women, he was spoiled rotten, with our mother being the chief facilitator. The positive side of this was he was loving, protective, and kind to women, not only his sisters. Desmond was fun. He was the life of the party. He was proud of the time he stopped traffic on Orange Street as he danced to “O Carolina” in front of his brother-in-law’s record studio. “The beauty of life doesn’t depend on how happy you are but on how happy others can be because of you.” Desmond never learned how to say “no”. He found joy in sharing and being available to others. Desmond was impatient to get on with his life’s mission, so he ended his education at Wolmer’s Boys High School prematurely and joined the family business as a haulage contractor. He later got interested and involved with horses and became a trainer. Up to his last days, his interest never waned, the sport of kings was in his veins. Desmond met and fell in love with Angela Beverly and took her as his life partner on December 18, 1982. They migrated to Florida, where they lived and worked together for over 27 years. He is survived by his wife, Angela Beverly; his son, Paul; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
