Miriam Clarke Obituary

Miriam Clarke was born on May 10, 1923 at Whitehouse in Westmoreland, Jamaica the third child of Mahalia Clarke and the first child of Charles Getters. She attended Salem All-Age School at Beeston Spring, Westmoreland, Jamaica. Thereafter, she attended Carron Hall College in St. Mary, where she did nursing. She further went to a designing institution in Kingston graduating as a seamstress, which was her career for many years. With her multi-disciplinary training, she embarked into business including a supermarket ice cream parlor and a barn in Kingston, Jamaica. This business survived her and is still operated by family members. In 2001, Miriam Clarke migrated to the USA in Miami, FL residing with her children. Miriam Clarke was spiritually nurtured by and participated in St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Beeston Spring, Westmoreland, where she was the organist. She also became a member of East Queen Street Baptist Church in Kingston. While residing in Miami, FL, she attended Trinity Church of Miami. Miriam Clarke is survived by one son, Michael, and five daughters, Flavia, Jennifer, Marcia, Veronica and Sharon; and thirty-four grandchildren and forty-one great grandchildren. Also surviving her are two brothers, Leslie and Curtis and one sister, Alice. She will be remembered for her generosity especially to those in need, her spirit, forgiveness, and her loyalty to friends and family. She was a very classy and well-spoken woman.
