Delbert Erwin Obituary

Delbert “Ernie” Hugh Erwin, 74, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his home in Umatilla, FL after a battle with cancer. Ernie Erwin was born on April 8, 1942 in Candler, NC, to the late Arnold and Mary Mae Erwin. He was the youngest of two children. His brother, Morris Erwin, lives in Candler, NC where both were raised. Ernie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lynn, daughters, Kim, Rhonda Laine, and Dana, and son Andy in Broward County, FL. He is also survived by eight grandchildren. Ernie was in the United States Marine Corp and never met a stranger. He just loved striking up a conversation with everyone no matter where he went, quite the social butterfly he was! While Ernie’s kids were growing up, he instilled in them the love of country life by taking them on camping trips which included many nights sitting under the stars around a campfire singing songs while he played his banjo. For many years, Ernie was the coach of the famed local baseball team the “Bear Cats”. Through this love of baseball Ernie made a positive impact on many kid’s lives. Ernie worked as an elevator mechanic until his retirement in 1998, bringing his love of the country life to Umatilla, FL which included clearing and working on his many acres of land with his beloved tractor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity closest to your heart on his behalf.
