Mr. Robert E. Phillips, 91, of Leesburg, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Pine Bluff Baptist Church. Revs. Keith Smith and Bruce Smith will officiate with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Navy. Born August 31, 1925 in Alabama, Mr. Phillips was the son of the late Daniel Webster Phillips and Carrie Bell Danford Phillips. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in The United States Navy on the USS Fowler. He retired from The Marine Logistics Base of Albany and worked for many years for The Albany Herald. He enjoyed meeting with his friends at the Albany Mall and was a kind Christian man. Mr. Phillips was a faithful charter member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, treasurer and a great part of the Seedline Ministry of the church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mattie Exa Senn Phillips. Survivors include his children, Betty Beckett and Joseph of Albany, Robert Allen Phillips and Deborah of Albany and Debbie Flowers and Craig of Leesburg; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
