Thomas F. Thomas (“Tom”), 62, of Canton, GA passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 11, 2020 while cycling. Tom was born April 27, 1958, in Bluefield, West Virginia to Joseph and Betsy Thomas and grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. He joined the US Navy in 1978 and was honorably discharged after 10 years. He continued his civil service career as a public relations professional for 32 years, most notably, at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Tom was a strong athlete and an avid cyclist. He also loved travel, scuba diving, and everything outdoors, except running, but he did it anyway to complete two Ironman 70.3 triathlons. He was a most wonderful man, father, brother, and friend - a true Tall Man Among Men. Tom is survived by his daughter, Sally Elizabeth King (Trey); step-son Nicholas VanWeele (Hannah); step-daughter Ashlee Sharpe; grandchildren - Hadley and Harman King, Grant and Emerson VanWeele; parents Joseph and Betsy Thomas; siblings Joseph B. Thomas Jr. (“Toby”), Margaret Allison Lowry (Roger). The family will receive family and friends from 4 to 5:30 at South Canton Funeral Home & Chapel on Thursday, July 16, 2020. Service will follow in the chapel at 5:30 pm. Interment will be at the Georgia National Cemetary in Canton, GA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an education charity established on Tom’s behalf to benefit children of Dive with Martin employees, a group Tom considered family.
