Mr. James Donald Smith, 76, of Cartersville, passed away suddenly, Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Ohio on May 24, 1939, he was the son of the late James Paul Smith II and Eunice Laura Hunt Smith. James was a great family man and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He was employed by Lockheed Martin for several years before leaving to work with General Motors leading to his retirement in 1993. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sheila Keys Smith of Cartersville; his children, Connie Smith, Brian Smith and wife, Cindy and Tim Smith all of Cartersville; grandchildren, Leanne Buchanan and husband, B.J., Corey Smith, Chase Wood and Kristie Wood all of Cartersville; his great-grandchildren, Skylar and Briley Buchanan of Cartersville; his siblings, Kenny Smith of Kennesaw, Jim Smith of Austell and Roger Smith of Kennesaw; along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Reverend Rudy Ross officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Family members will be serving as pallbearers.
