Arvil West Irvin, age 87 of Demorest, passed away Sunday, June 03, 2012 at his residence. Born in Habersham County, GA on November 02, 1924, he was a son of the late Samuel P. and Minnie McAllister Irvin. Mr. Irvin was a member of Habersham Baptist Church and was a self employed poultry farmer. Mr. Irvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII having been a recipient of the Purple Heart and various other medals. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time. In addition to his parents, Mr. Irvin was also preceded in death by a son, Arvil Douglas Irvin; daughter-in-law, Glenda Irvin; sister, Gennie Humphries. Surviving are loving wife of 70 years, Bonnie McNabb Irvin of Demorest; son, Kenneth Irvin of Demorest; son & daughter-in-law, Tony & Cathy Irvin of Demorest; brother, Odell Irvin of Demorest; sister, Elizabeth Nicholson of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Delaine & Marty Blazek, Lori Irvin, Todd & Ashley Irvin, Wesley & Michelle Irvin; great grandchildren, Woods Irvin, Jonah, Micah and Noah Blazek. Funeral services are 11:00 am Friday, June 08, 2012, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Shore officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Thursday. An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.
