Betty Miller

Betty Hammond Miller, age 84 of Macon and formerly of Cornelia, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012. Born in Trion, Georgia on December 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander and Myrtis Hogue Hammond. Mrs. Miller was a lifelong resident of Habersham County until May of 2002 when she moved to Macon and became a resident of Carlyle Place. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia and previously active in the Baptist Women (WMU) and Sunday School Class. She also volunteered at the church library, and was a member of the Three Arts Club and Cornelia Garden Club. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Laura Nell Woods, Mable Espy, Frances McLean, Margaret Day, Dorothy Baker, Eloise Vetek, and brothers, James Alexander “Buddy” Hammond and Harold Hammond. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sheryll Melinda Miller and Lynn Hooven of Macon; son, Michael Barr Miller of Fort Bragg, CA; grandchildren and spouses, Laura and Marc Waetjen of Wyomissing, PA and James and Kristen Hooven of Longmont, CO; great grandchildren, Carsten and Katrin Waetjen and Hannah and Drake Hooven. Funeral services are 11:00 am Friday, January 6, 2012, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 277 MLK Jr Blvd, Suite 201, Macon, GA 31201, American Cancer Society, c/o Lena McGahee, 170 Thomas St, Apt A, Cornelia, GA 30531 or to the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, PO Box 96, Cornelia, GA 30531.
