Charlie Banks Obituary

Mrs. Charlie Mae Mattox Banks was born March 17, 1940 to the late James Pope and Gertrude Mattox. She was the third eldest of six children. Two siblings preceded her in death, George W. Mattox and Lattrella Mattox Scott. She was united in marriage to the late Nathaniel Banks and continued to reside in Cornelia, Georgia. Mrs. Banks attended Cornelia Regional High School and devoted her time being a loving wife and mother to three sons. At an early age, she joined and attended Israel C.M.E. Church in Cornelia, Georgia. She was an inspirational force in the community, even during the time of her illness. She always cared about others and had a sweet spirit about her. She believed in God and never let go of her faith. On Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Peachtree Christian Hospice, she was called home to glory. She was a good soldier and answered the call. Mrs. Banks leaves to mourn three children, James Frederick Mattox, Melvin William Banks and Timothy Sebastian Banks (Michelle); three sisters, Jean Gloria Gober (LaFayette), Sally Mae Brown (Tim) and Peggy Burgess; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services are 11:00 am Wednesday, October 24, 2012, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Tracy Curry officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the service hour. An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.
