Delmer Rogers, Sr., age 83 of Cornelia, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born in Clermont GA on October 26, 1928, he was the son of the late Brade and Effie Myers Rogers. Mr. Rogers retired in 1985 as a supervisor from Fieldale Farms. He was an active member of Level Grove Baptist Church where he enjoyed traveling with the Sunshine Band. He also enjoyed sports, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Delmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who was witty and had a great sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, N.L. Rogers, Rex Rogers and Guy Rogers; sister, Loutene Oliver. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Roper Rogers of Cornelia; daughters and son-in-laws, Elaine and Jarvis Cook of Cornelia, Annette and Brian Sloan of Flowery Branch; son and daughter-in-law, Delmer, Jr. and Leanne Rogers of Hartwell; grandchildren, Brandon Sloan, Caitlin Sloan, Karis Sloan, Heather Cook Buffington, Colby Cook; great grandchild, Eli Buffington; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtlelene and W.L. “Dub” Ravan; other family members, Elaine Loggins of Virginia Beach, VA and Gail McClellan of Cleveland; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 2:00 pm Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Level Grove Baptist Church with David Nicholson, Rev. Terry Rice and Rev. Brian James officiating. The family requests that members of the Sunshine Band assemble at the church to be seated together. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Brian Sloan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 pm on Friday and also from noon until 1:40 pm on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Level Grove Debt Reduction Fund, PO Box 416, Cornelia, GA 30531 or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Lena McGahee, 120 Thomas St, Apt A, Cornelia, GA 30531 in honor of Leanne Rogers.
