Doris J. Rowland, age 87, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2019. Doris was born on July 3, 1932 in Lula, GA to Alonzo and Rushia Jordan. Her large family was part of the tight knit community that centered around Rock Springs Baptist Church. As the eldest child Doris helped her parents with the tasks and responsibilities in their home and accompanied her Grandmother Elika Jordan to deliver food to families in their community. Doris had a giving and generous nature and always wanted to help. This was her guiding light with family, friends, work and her church community. Throughout her life she was valued as a friendly and compassionate soul. Doris’ beautiful smile and kind spirit will be missed by her family and friends. Doris was the beloved wife of the late Robert S. Rowland. She was the loving mother of Laurie Rose (CL) of Cleveland Heights, OH, and the late Chuck Hardman. She was the dear grandmother of Ashley H. Hiestand (Kelly Tate) of Los Angeles, CA and Margaret E. “Meg” Hiestand of Chicago, IL. She was the dear sister of Maxine Phinazee (Bill) of Buford, GA, Ann Braswell (Ray) of Jasper, GA and the late Roland and Ronnie Jordan. Doris is survived by her stepchildren: Kathy Weber (Jack) of Charlevoix, MI, Bruce Rowland (Jan) of Greenville, MI, and Evan Rowland (Su) of Fountain Hills, AZ. She is survived by step-grandchildren: Nicole Waites (Xander), Tiffany Adams (Erik), Chad Rowland (Kayti), Brent Rowland (Amanda) and by step great-grandchildren, Ava and Madelyn Rowland. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the service hour on Wednesday at the funeral home.
