Dorothy Canup Parker

Dorothy Canup Parker, 81 of Demorest went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 26, 2017 following an extended illness. Born in Baldwin, Georgia on December 16, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Joe Berry Maxwell & Minnie Viola Worley Maxwell. Mrs. Parker was a caregiver for many years and retired from Habersham Medical Center after 14 years of service. She loved to cook and was famous for her jellies & red velvet cakes. Mrs. Parker was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening. She was a member of Stone Pile Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Thurmond, Pearline Murphy, and brothers, Talmadge Maxwell & Tatum Maxwell. Survivors include her loving husband of 29 years, Lloyd Parker of Demorest; children, Dorothy Jean “D.J.” Canup of Mountain City; Dillard & Debbie Canup of Hiawassee; Delorace & Wallace Dodd of Clarkesville; Millie & Bo London of Cleveland; Joyce Wigington of Clarkesville; Becky & Lee House of Mt. Airy; Clifford & Shelby Murphy of Demorest; brother, Cranford Maxwell of Union Point; sister, Marie Dalton of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; other relatives & friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. David Rudeseal and Mr. Kasey McEntire officiating. Interment will be held in the B.C. Grant Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.
