Dorothy "Dotty" Fell Parsons

Dorothy “Dotty” Fell Parsons, age 89, of Cornelia, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014, at Habersham Medical Center. Born in Calvert, Maryland, on March 14, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Norman Job and Rosa Longacre Fell. Mrs. Parsons was a retired educator who taught home economics and was a teacher-librarian for over 35 years in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Her teaching experience included two years in which she and husband Al taught together at the Presbyterian-sponsored Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah. On retirement in 1986, she and Al relocated to Habersham County. Mrs. Parsons became active in numerous community groups including Caring and Sharing, The Arc, Habersham County Soup Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, Northeast Georgia Peace Council and Volunteers for Literacy. She was a long time member of Association of American University Women. While a member of the Clarkesville Methodist Church she served as a Stephens minister and was active in The Women’s Society and the Mission Team. Dotty and her husband, Al most recently were members of Demorest Federated Church. In her spare time, Mrs. Parsons enjoyed time with her grandchildren, local theater, Book Club, Great Decisions Discussion Group, gardening and traveling with family and Elderhostel groups. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parsons was also preceded in death by her two sisters. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Albert W. Parsons of Cornelia; daughters Rebecca Pierce of Demorest and Beth Rotella of Syracuse, NY; sons Timothy Parsons of Hackettstown, NJ, and Terance Parsons of Demorest; granddaughters Narra Pierce Demichina of Atlanta, Hassey Parsons Adelsberger of Lake Worth FL, and Sierra Rotella of Tampa, FL; grandsons Alan Pierce of Decatur, GA, Joseph Rotella of Syracuse, and Colton Parsons of Lake Worth; great granddaughter Winter Violet Adelsberger of Lake Worth; also surviving are one brother, William Fell of Calvert, MD and one sister, Rosemary Mitchell of Albuquerque, NM. Memorial services are 4:00 pm Friday, August 22, 2014, at Demorest Federated Church, 611 Georgia Street, Demorest, GA 30535, with Rev. Joyce Acree officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Cornelia First Presbyterian Church, 469 North Main Street, Cornelia, GA 30531. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Demorest Federated Church or to Heifer International at www.heifer.org An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.
