Edna Mae Gerrin Elrod, age 84 of Cornelia, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Habersham Home West. Born on October 18, 1927, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Tom B. and Cora Mae Morris Gerrin. Mrs. Elrod was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was retired from the textile industry. She worked with both Habersham Mills and Regal Textile. Mrs. Elrod was an avid country music fan who enjoyed vacationing at the beach and traveling. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Buford Lee “Tom” Elrod; son-in-law, Carl Enos Tart; grandson, Nicky Lee Elrod; sisters, Pearl Fortenberry and Ethel Buffington. Mrs. Elrod was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Ricky Lee and Jeannine Elrod of Cornelia; daughter, Ann Tart of Demorest; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Johnny Benfield of Cleveland; grandchildren and spouses, Rhonda and James Butterworth, Sherry Benfield, Rev. Terry and Tammy Benfield, Ryan and Tara Elrod; great grandchildren, Neil Davis, Justin Benfield, MaKayla Benfield and Rylee Elrod. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Chris York and Rev. J.R. Elrod officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Wednesday.
