Frances Land DeWitt

Frances Land DeWitt, age 94, of Cornelia, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 at her son’s residence. Born on September 16, 1920, in Columbus, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Monroe and Ella Spencer Land. Mrs. DeWitt was a member of Cornelia 1st Presbyterian Church for 74 years and was retired from Johnson & Johnson with over 20 years of service. She loved both her immediate and extended family and enjoyed cooking and entertaining in her spare time. She enjoyed 18 years of travel with her husband as a member of the Airstream RV Club. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, A.J. DeWitt; grandson, Kevin Jon DeWitt; great grandson, John Michael Ogburn; brothers, James and Tom Land. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Pat DeWitt of Monroe and Dr. Henry and Linda DeWitt of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Fred Tucker of Johnson City, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services are 3 pm Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Cornelia 1st Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jason Edwards and Rev. Bill Ford, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cornelia 1st Presbyterian Church, 469 North Main Street, P.O. Box 165, Cornelia, Georgia 30531. An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.
