Garnett Lee “Sonny” Hardeman, Jr., age 68, of Mt. Airy, GA, passed away Friday, April 08, 2011 at Stephens County Hospital. Born on October 19, 1942, in Oglethorpe County, GA, he was a son of the late Garnett Lee, Sr. and Ruena Young Hardeman.Mr. Hardeman was of the Christian faith and was retired from the United States Army with the rank of Sgt. 1st Class.He moved to Habersham County in 1978 where he was a carpenter.He also was a host for the Georgia State Parks. Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. Hardeman of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and David Bailey of Woodstock and Tammy and Dennis Miller of Cumming; grandchildren, Courtney Brooke Allen of Athens and David K. Bailey, II of Woodstock; sisters, Ann Anthony of Hull, Janice Dunn of Elberton, Dorothy McGill of Iva, SC., and Vicki Johnson of Abbeville, SC. Graveside services are 2:00 pm Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the VFW Memorial Park with Rev. David Burke officiating.Full military honors will be provided by the Georgia National Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Saturday. An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.
