Geraldine Simmons Marcus, age 79 of Demorest, passed away Thursday, May 01, 2014, at Landmark Hospital in Athens. Born on May 26, 1934, in Banks County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny C. Simmons and Dosha Broome Simmons. She was a retired machine operator at Piedmont Automotive and enjoyed traveling, camping, and deer hunting. Mrs. Marcus was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and attended Maysville United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, George William “G.W.” Marcus; son-in-law, Floyd Stancil; brothers, Burch, Ernest, Rupart, Floy, Verse, Bud and Nelson Simmons; sisters, Gertrude Chitwood, Loyal Evans, Flonie Smith, Lillie Mae Maxwell, and Elouise Weaver. Surviving are daughters, Rita F. Stancil of Cornelia, Patsy K. Buchwald of Colorado Springs, CO, and Libby G. Albertson of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda S. & Lanny Cantrell of Baldwin and Peggy A. & Wayne Norton of Toccoa; sisters, Betty Haro of Demorest, Ruth Caufman of Stockbridge, and Pat York of Apollo Beach, FL; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; adopted family, Michael & Denise Clarke and family of Demorest; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2:00 pm Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Michael Clarke officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev.
