Retired Master Sergeant, Harold “Hal” Langton Pearson, Sr., age 73 of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, June 01, 2013 at his residence. Born on December 24, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harold Gross and Marion Langton Pearson. Mr. Pearson was a retired Master Sergeant with the Marine Corps after 21 years of service. During his service, he spent two years as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, South Carolina and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. After retirement, he settled in Georgia in 1981 and was employed with Lee Arrendale State Prison for 12 years and the Youth Detention Center of Hall County for 5 years. Mr. Pearson was of the Christian faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pearson was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Draven Payne Umbehant, and brothers-in-law Jerry Bass and Roy Evans. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Vinson Pearson; sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Langton, Jr. and Lori Pearson of Mt. Airy, Michael Wayne and Lori Pearson of Clarkesville, Brian Keith and Donna Pearson of Toccoa, and Jason Lee and Amber Pearson of Canton; Step-son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Lori Umbehant of Mt. Airy; and Step-daughter and son-in-law Danielle and Sam Scott of Augusta; 23 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sisters, Ann Evans of Toledo, OH, and Sue Bass of Wildwood, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services are 11:00 am Tuesday, June 04, 2013 at the Chapel of McGahee Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps and the Georgia National Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 pm on Monday. An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.
