Homer Eugene Cook, age 92, of Alto, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born in Habersham County on September 20, 1921, he was a son of the late Sparta Watson Cook and Elma Lee Cook. Mr. Cook was retired as postmaster from Alto Post Office with 26 years of service. He was member of Mud Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bird hunting and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Cook and a sister, Vera Jordan. Survivors include wife of 63 years, Lois Bentley Cook of Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kim Cook of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steve Gerrin of Alto; grandchildren, Julie and Chad Parker of Homer, Stephanie and Brent Shubert of Cornelia, Brandy and Matt Anderson of Cornelia and Jacob and Brooke Pitts of Clarkesville; great grandchildren, Emily and Melody Parker both of Homer, Zach and Addie Shubert of Cornelia, Harold and Ely Anderson of Cornelia and Charlie and Trey Pitts of Clarkesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hargrove and Hazel Cook of Alto, Grady and Nina Cook of Alto; sister, Edna Herndon Wood of Buford; sister-in-law, Joan Cook of Griffin, GA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Chad Parker and Rev. Johnny Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Mud Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. J.R. Elrod officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
