Homer Haynes

Homer Robert Haynes, age 80 of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016. Born in Hall County, Georgia on November 10, 1935, he was a son of the late Alfred and Maurine Haynes. Mr. Haynes was a retired auto mechanic having worked with Western Auto and Hardy Chevrolet. After retirement, Mr. Haynes drove a bus for the Habersham County School System and Wilbanks Tours. Mr. Haynes was a member of The Torch Worship Center. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are his wife, Opal Jones Haynes of Cornelia; son, Cloys “Shorty” Haynes of Blairsville; daughters & sons-in-law, Ruth H. & Ray Black of Clarkesville and Teresa H. & Kent Southern of Braselton; step sons, Danny Helton of Demorest and Sammy Holbrook of Dillard; step son & spouse, Randy & Melissa Helton of Demorest; sisters, Debbie Row of TN and Martha Gary of Hoschton; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, October 27, 2016, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Connie Berry and Pastor Mike Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society at 2565 Thompson Bridge Rd., Suite 114, Gainesville, GA 30501. An online guest register is available for the family and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home (706/778-8668) and Habersham Crematory both of Cornelia are in charge of arrangements.
