Homer Haynes

Homer Robert Haynes, age 80 of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016. Born in Hall County, Georgia on November 10, 1935, he was a son of the late Alfred and Maurine Haynes. Mr. Haynes was a retired auto mechanic having worked with Western Auto and Hardy Chevrolet. After retirement, Mr. Haynes drove a bus for the Habersham County School System and Wilbanks Tours. Mr. Haynes was a member of The Torch Worship Center. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are his wife, Opal Jones Haynes of Cornelia; son, Cloys “Shorty” Haynes of Blairsville; daughters & sons-in-law, Ruth H. & Ray Black of Clarkesville and Teresa H. & Kent Southern of Braselton; step sons, Danny Helton of Demorest and Sammy Holbrook of Dillard; step son & spouse, Randy & Melissa Helton of Demorest; sisters, Debbie Row of TN and Martha Gary of Hoschton; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, October 27, 2016, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Connie Berry and Pastor Mike Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society at 2565 Thompson Bridge Rd., Suite 114, Gainesville, GA 30501.
