Jewell White

Jewell Jackson White, Sr., age 76 of Alto, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Born in Banks County, GA on January 13, 1936, he was a son of the late John J. and Myra Phillips White. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Rev. J.L. White and Buster White; grandson, Joseph White. Mr. White was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 20 years. He was the owner/operator of White Super Saver Foods in Atlanta for 21 years. He was also a U.S. Army veteran 1959-1963, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He enjoyed NASCAR, traveling, going to Braves baseball games and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are wife, Betty Jo White of Banks, County; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Wanda White of Winder and Jewell Jackson, Jr. and Brenda White of Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Tony Madden of Lawrenceville; daughter, Barbara Redding of Lula; brother, Doyle White of Lula; sisters, Mae Smith, Ethleen Hooper and Joyce Shubert all of Lula, Francine Westbrook of Baldwin and Betty Jo Tiepkema of Oakwood; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services are 2:00 pm Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Wilson and Rev. James Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Swayne Cochran officiating with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, American Legion Post #84, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and Georgia National Guard Funeral Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-5 & 7-9 pm on Friday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 747 Rock Springs Road, Lula, GA 30554.
