John Neal Cornell

John Neal Cornell, age 81, of Cornelia, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at The Oaks at Scenic View. Born on January 24, 1933 in Parkspring, North Carolina, he was a son of the late John W. and Fannie Walker Cornell. Mr. Cornell was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest and enjoyed reading, gardening, woodworking and being involved with his grandchildren. He served his country proudly as Seabee in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He also served a two year tour in Bermuda. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cornell was also preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Beavers. Survivors include wife of 34 years, Beatrice Mixon Cornell of Cornelia; sons, John Cornell, Jr. of York, SC and Randy Cornell of Rockhill, SC; daughters, Sabrina Turner of Danville, VA and Christie Cornell of Concord, NC; step-daughter, Theresa Crawford of Denver, CO; sister, Mary Lea McCoy of Danville, VA; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services are 2:00 pm Thursday, February 20, 2014, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Russ Barker officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Georgia National Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 am until 11:30 am Thursday. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Mt.
