LaMoris Torea Burton

LaMoris Torea Burton, age 28 of Gainesville, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015. <br>Born in Habersham County on May 22, 1987, he was a son of Janice Chappell Burton of Stone Mountain and Kenneth Nicely of Cleveland. He was a 2007 graduate of North Hall High School where he played football and basketball. He was also active in track and field where he placed 8th in the nation. After graduating high school, he attended Mississippi State University in 2007 and 2008. During 2008 and 2009 he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Hood, Texas in the U.S. Army as an army medic. Mr. Burton was recently employed with Walmart in Dawsonville and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Clarkesville. He enjoyed dancing, fire poi and exercising with his son.<br>In addition to his parents, he is also survived by wife, Lori Burton of Gainesville; son, LaMoris Elijah Jamel Burton, Jr. of Gainesville; stepson, Caleb Hoover of Gainesville; brothers, Cedeno Burton (Kimberly Stolp) of Gainesville and Kenny Nicely of Cleveland; special brother, T.J. Pitts of Gainesville; sisters, LaToysha Burton (Yusuf Garuba, Sr.) of Atlanta and LaCorsha Burton (Emanjula Brown) of Toccoa; aunts, Patricia Pitts of Gainesville, Carol Strickland of Toccoa and Shirley Richardson (Phillip) of Sautee; uncles, Larry Chappell (Robin) of Atlanta, Larry Nicely (Patricia) of Clarkesville, Chris Powell (Victoria) of Atlanta, Burgess Powell of Clarkesville and Richard Lowery of Cornelia; god parents, Neal and Tina Dorsey of Sautee; nephews, Joseph, Jr., Michael, & Gabriel Garuba, Nicholas Stolp, Kamon Taylor, nieces, Lakyah Burton, & Ky'Leah Brown, cousins, & friends.<br>Memorial services are 3 pm Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Pastor Roger Stephens officiating. <br>The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the service hour on Tuesday at the funeral home. <br>An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.<br>McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home and Habersham Crematory of Cornelia (706/778-8668) are in charge of arrangements.<br><br>
