Larry Carnes

Rev. Larry D. Carnes, age 69 of Mt. Airy, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Born in Athens, Georgia on July 5, 1947, he was a son of the late N. B. Carnes and Florine Howington Carnes. Rev. Carnes was an ordained minister for 18 years having pastored several area churches. His passion was serving God, fellowshipping with others, and listening to good preaching. He was also an avid baseball fan and UGA football fan. In addition to his parents, Rev. Carnes was preceded in death by his son, Joel Golden; sister and brother-in-law, Janice & A. P. Smith. Survivors include his loving wife, Sue Thompson Carnes of Mt. Airy; son, Pastor Ryan Carnes of Bainbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy & Thomas Mealor of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Dustin (Hope) Mealor, Bethany Carnes, Jewell Golden, Andrew Carnes, and Anna Carnes; great grandchildren, Aaron & Zeke Mealor; special relatives who Rev. Carnes helped raise, Evelyn Howington and Mary Brooks. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Charles Hanson officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 pm on Sunday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Stuart Sanders, Dr. Nancy Watson, Dr James Hamilton, the staff of Habersham Medical Center, and the staff of Habersham Home.
