LETHA LANE GODFREY, age 87 of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 following an extended illness. Born in Sampson County, North Carolina on March 17, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel Lane & Katie Hare – Daw. Mrs. Godfrey was a life-time member of the Jacksonville VFW Post # 7909 where she served as a former President of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She also volunteered for many years with Jacksonville Hopsice. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Godfrey was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Godfrey, Jr., as well as two infant children, Michael Vernon & Betty Lou Vernon. Survivors include her children, Mary Ann Hatfield, Brenda Dizon & Spouse, Phil Vernon, Ronnie Vernon & Spouse, Terry Parnell, Jackie Roberts & Spouse, Cheryl Smith & Spouse, Robin Godfrey & Partner, 15 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends will come together on Saturday, July 29, 2017 to celebrate Letha’s life at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222, Gainesville, GA. 30501 An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com MCGAHEE-GRIFFIN & STEWART FUNERAL HOME OF CORNELIA, GEORGIA (706/778-8668) IS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.
