Rubye Colston Batson

Rubye Colston Batson, age 86, of Demorest, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following an extended illness. Born in Habersham County on May 21, 1927, she was a daughter of the late C.R. Colston and Zelma Brewer Colston. Mrs. Batson devoted her life to her home and her family and loved to garden, fish, and travel. She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church and was known for her generous spirit. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Batson was also preceded in death by her husband, Claud F. Batson; son, Johnny C. Batson; sister, Ruth Forrester; brothers, Harold Colston, Vernon Colston and Russell Colston. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Kerry Ayers of Loganville; daughter, Dolores Wilson of Demorest; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Kenneth Alexander of Demorest; brothers and sisters-in-law, Weldon and Betty Colston of Cornelia and Carl and Genevieve Colston of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Mandy Wilson, Phillip and Jelyn Ayers, Jennifer and Mark Kempey, Jerica Batson and Jonathan Batson; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, May 23, 2014, at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Chris York officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. David Colston officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ladies who gave loving companionship while caring for Mrs. Rubye; Betty, Shann, Gail, Eunice and Virginia. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, in memory of Mrs. Batson, 5040 Pea Ridge Road, Cornelia, Georgia 30531.
