Ruth Josephine Matheson Cook Obituary

Ruth Josephine Matheson Cook, age 94, of Alto, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at her residence. Born in Habersham County on November 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Frank Matheson and Vera Shirley Matheson. Mrs. Cook was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was retired from Carwood Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Silas Newton Cook; two sisters; one great-great grandchild. Survivors include daughters Melba Dodd (James) of Alto, Francine Ritch of Alto, Shirley Smith (Edwin) of Mt. Airy, Melissa Downer (Richard) of Cornelia; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Jan Devereaux and Rev. Dennis Wilkes officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
