Thelma Fry Nix

THELMA FRY NIX, age 90 of Cornelia, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Habersham Home East. Born in the Macedonia Community of Habersham County, Georgia on August 5, 1923, she was a daughter of the late George Kytle & Wilda McClellan Fry. Mrs. Nix worked for many years with Scovill Manufacturing, retired from Clarkesville Mill, and was a former manager of the Demorest Coin Laundry. Affectionately known as “Meme” to her grandchildren and friends, Mrs. Thelma was a strong Christian woman who was always willing to help others that were in need. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and most of all spending precious time with her family. Mrs. Nix was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Clarkesville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nix was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Nix; son, Kenneth Nix, daughters-in-law, Barbara Nix, Bonnie Nix, brothers, Dillard, Levo, Alvin, Osco, Calvo, and Freeman Fry; sisters, Connice McEntire and Beulah Bannon. Mrs. Nix was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Leon & Betty Nix, Clarkesville, GA; sons, Jerry Nix, Alto, GA; Calvin Nix, Clarkesville, GA; Terry Nix, Alto, GA; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Kenneth McEntire and the Rev. Bill Free officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. & 7 until 9 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the funeral home.
