Troy Lafayette Ivie

Troy Lafayette Ivie, age 88 of Cornelia, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015, at his residence. Born in Habersham County on December 16, 1926, he was a son of the late Warner and Vassie Free Ivie. Mr. Ivie was a retired shipping clerk with Carwood Manufacturing and member of Level Grove Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed bird watching and time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Ivie served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Surviving are loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine Williams Ivie of Cornelia; sons, Steve and Ted Ivie both of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Ivie Taylor & Michael Taylor of Demorest; sister, Doris Wilson of Cornelia; grandchildren, Tracy Lester and Barbara Hodges; seven great grandchildren. Graveside services are 3:00 pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at B. C. Grant Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Terry Rice and Mr. Danny Williams officiating with military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, Habersham County American Legion Post #74, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, and the Georgia National Guard. All friends and family are requested to meet at the cemetery by 2:30 pm Tuesday. An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home (706-778-8668) of Cornelia is in charge of arrangements.
